L-Chair
New York Subway Chair

L-Chair is a subway standing chair that installs in MTA subways. It easily mounts onto existing poles and was inspired by riders’ habit of leaning on those poles.

Background

Subways are commonly used by many in a daily basis. I observed how people behave in the carts, where I found some sitting down and others stand or lean against walls. Based on these observations, I designed a new subway seating that can be easily installed in pre-existing subway structures.

Objective

The objective was to create an easy-install chair that accommodates different preferences of how passengers choose to ride the subway. It was designed to adapt to the current New York MTA Subway environment.

Final Product

L Chair has an easy and cheap manufacturing process of rotomolding, mold casting, and sheet metal fabrication.

How to install

Place the frames onto the U-pole and screw them together.

HowToInstall2.gif

Lock the extruded tabs of the seats onto the frame. Finish by securing the seats with plate braces underneath.
